God is Still Rerouting You

“The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again.” Proverbs 24:16

Have you ever missed a turn while using your GPS? You knew where you were supposed to go. The directions were right there in front of you, and somehow you still missed the exit. Maybe you were distracted. Maybe you thought you knew a better way. Maybe you just weren’t paying attention. But here’s what your GPS doesn’t say when you mess up: “You idiot. You ruined everything. You’ll never get there now. You’re useless. I’m done with you.”

It simply says, “Rerouting.” It finds another road, another turn, another way forward. The destination hasn’t changed just because you took a wrong turn. I think some men need to hear that today.

God has not given up on you just because you got off course.

Maybe you made a bad decision. Maybe you failed as a husband. Maybe you haven’t been the father you know you should be. Maybe you went back to something you promised yourself you would never go back to. Maybe anger got the best of you. Maybe temptation won. Maybe you wasted time or spent years running from God. None of that means God is finished with you. It simply means it is time to listen when He says, “Rerouting.”

Peter understood this. Peter denied Jesus three times. He had been warned, and he still failed. Imagine the shame of having to look Jesus in the eyes after saying, “I don’t know Him.” But Jesus did not throw Peter away. Jesus restored him.

In John 21, Jesus asked Peter three times, “Do you love me?” Then Jesus gave him an assignment: “Feed my sheep.” John 21:17. Peter’s failure did not cancel his calling. God rerouted him. The man who denied Jesus became one of the boldest voices preaching the name of Jesus. Peter became the leader of the ancient Church.

That is what grace does. Grace does not pretend you did not miss the turn. Grace says, “That was the wrong road. Now follow Me from here.”

Think about your own family. If your son makes a mistake, do you stop being his father? If your daughter disappoints you, do you erase her from the family? Of course not. You correct them. You discipline them. You teach them. You help them get back up because they belong to you. Jesus said in Matthew 7:11, “If you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him!”

God is a better Father than any of us will ever be. So, why do we sometimes believe He has less patience with us than we have with our own children?

God’s correction is not rejection.

Hebrews 12:6 says, “For the Lord disciplines those he loves.” Sometimes the reroute is uncomfortable. Sometimes God closes a door. Sometimes He removes something from your life. Sometimes He exposes something you would rather keep hidden. Sometimes He allows you to feel the consequences of your choices. That does not mean He hates you. It may be proof that He loves you too much to let you keep driving in the wrong direction.

The problem is, a lot of men have been beating themselves up for years. Failure. Worthless. Bad husband. Bad father. Hypocrite. Addict. Screw-up. Lost cause. But if God has not given up on you, who gave you permission to give up on yourself?

Romans 8:1 says, “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Conviction says, “You’re going the wrong way. Turn around.” Condemnation says, “You are the wrong person. Give up.” One sounds like a Father calling His son home. The other sounds like an enemy trying to convince you to stay lost. Learn the difference.

Our families do not need perfect men. Your wife does not need a perfect husband. Your children do not need a perfect father. They need a man who knows how to repent. A man who can admit when he was wrong. A man who can say, “I blew it.” A man who will apologize, pray, open his Bible again, ask for help, and get back in the fight. They need a man who refuses to stay down.

Micah 7:8 says, “Though I have fallen, I will rise.” That is the posture of a godly man. Not, “I never fall.” It is, “I will rise.”

Your sons need to see that. Your daughters need to see that. Your wife needs to see that. The men around you need to see that. Strength is not pretending you never get lost. Strength is having enough humility to let God reroute you.

Maybe today is your reroute. Maybe you are farther away from God than you have been in years. Start where you are. Maybe your marriage is not where it needs to be. Start where you are. Maybe you have become a passive as a father. Start where you are. Maybe your prayer life is almost nonexistent. Start where you are. Maybe you have not opened your Bible in months. Start where you are.

You cannot change the turns you made yesterday, but you can listen to the voice of God today. Isaiah 30:21 says, “Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, ‘This is the way you should go,’ whether to the right or to the left.” God is still speaking. God is still leading. God is still correcting. God is still calling. God is still rerouting.

If you woke up this morning with breath in your lungs, God is not finished with your story. So, stop staring at the road behind you. You cannot drive forward while staring in the rearview mirror. Repent. Get up. Grab your Bible. Lead your family. Call the brother you have been avoiding. Ask for help. Make the apology. Have the hard conversation. Take the next right step.

You may have missed a turn. You may have taken the long way. You may have gone miles in the wrong direction, but your Father has not abandoned you on the side of the road. He is still speaking. He is still leading. He is still calling you forward. He is still,

Rerouting.
